This workshop will introduce students to the art of
assemblage (creating 3D constructions using found
objects). Using everyday objects, learn about putting
elements together in an aesthetic way; using various
connectors and adhesives; how to cut, bend, and shape
your found elements to make them work best; and to
push yourself to be more creative in the process. We
will discuss various approaches and share ideas. Using
your own elements, you will create an assemblage that
carries your personal vision.
Techniques or skills taught in workshop: selecting
materials; preparing armature or container; proper
use of adhesives; fastening elements using various
hardware and rivets; making sure your assemblage
“holds up” for exhibition; preparing your work for
display.
The Stifel Center will provide tools. The instructor will
provide rivet gun and some additional hand tools.
Student must provide armature or container for his/her
assemblage, as well as materials. A list of suggested
materials will be provided. (Limit 12)
